By adding SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematics software to its SOLIDWORKS mechanical design installation, Shred-Tech has improved the efficiency and accuracy of electrical system designs for the company’s recycling and shredding equipment.

Headquartered in Cambridge, Ontario just down the street from CAD Micro’s Tri-Cities office, Shred-Tech is a global leader in designing and manufacturing shredding and recycling systems. With thousands of systems installed worldwide, ranging from small office-sized shredders to large mobile shredding trucks, they’re recognized for their commitment to engineering innovation, quality and first-class products. With shredding systems suitable to handle nearly any material, including paper, wood, plastics, metals, construction debris, tires and medical waste, Shred-Tech relies on the latest design and manufacturing technology to develop their products.

While their mechanical designers have been effectively using SOLIDWORKS for quite some time, Shred-Tech’s electrical designers faced some difficulty using AutoCAD to design schematics of electrical panels for their products. They experienced inconsistencies in Bill of Materials (BOM) information and drawings, resulting in loss of time and an increase in costs. They began looking into alternatives and settled on SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematics to streamline the development of their electrical design work.

After standardizing on SOLIDWORKS Electrical, Shred-Tech realized an immediate productivity boost in electrical schematic layouts and BOM generation, cutting BOM generation time down from one week to 4 hours. They were able to minimize errors and ultimately reduce the overall footprint of their electrical panels. Because of the success they experienced from harmonizing their mechanical and electrical design, Shred-Tech plans to further streamline their development process by adding the automated wire and cable routing capabilities of SOLIDWORKS Premium.
