Bite mark analysis is crucial in sexual assault cases but has been controversial due to variability and lack of standardized methods. Traditional methods like photography and manual measurements often fall short. Forensics grad student Erika Franze, with the help of Artec Space Spider, developed a precise 3D scanning method to capture bite marks. This method provides detailed, accurate models for comparison, reducing subjectivity and improving reliability in forensic investigations. The new approach is faster and more accurate, making it a potential game-changer in forensic dentistry.
