CAD MicroSolutions hosted Canada’s first Plastics Knowledge Day with 3D metrology partner, GOM, in Toronto as part of a global series with events hosted in more than 30 countries around the world. The events brought together experts in optical 3D metrology and plastics to share information on the tools and technology making an impact on the plastics process chain in Industry 4.0.

CAD MicroSolutions had the pleasure of hosting Canada’s first Plastics Knowledge Day alongside our 3D metrology partner, GOM, on November 27th at our Toronto head office. Although ours was the only event in Canada, Plastics Knowledge Day was a global series with events hosted in more than 30 countries around the world throughout 2019! The events brought together experts in optical 3D metrology and plastics to share information on the tools and technology making an impact on the plastics process chain in Industry 4.0.

With many of our clients operating within the plastics industry – from injection molding through packaging, plastic product development and more – we tailored the information sessions to deliver relevant content for our attendees. We began with an overview of the plastics process chain and the tools and technology that add value to it. We then discussed and demonstrated the scanning of plastic parts leveraging GOM technology, and the various downstream applications of the resulting mesh file, leveraging real-world application scenarios. We discussed geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T) in the plastics industry, as well as the role of optical measuring technology in Tooling. We finished up with a discussion of Simulation and Inspection tools and techniques, as well as the correlation of results in the plastics industry. To wrap up an information-packed event, we invited our attendees to stick around and network with others in the plastics community over some snacks and refreshments during our social reception.
